Parish History

Ss. Simon and Jude was established on June 16, 1955.  The first Mass of the new parish was celebrated in the Fern Garden night club on June 19.  On August 14, ground was broken for a new church and hall.  Beginning on September 25, 1955, Sunday Masses moved from the night club to the auditorium of Foxcroft School.  On November 6, 1955, the cornerstone of the new church was laid.  The completed church was dedicated on February 11, 1956.

As the parish continued to grow, the original church soon became too small.  However, rather than tear it down and build a new church, the parish decided to enlarge the existing church.  The last Mass in the original structure was celebrated on December 8, 1967.  The new, enlarged church held its first Mass on April 7, 1968.
