During Lent of 2023, parishioners across the Diocese of Pittsburgh shared their thoughts, reflected on their spiritual growth, and provided important insight on their parish’s strengths and opportunities through the Disciple Maker Index (DMI).
Members from each of the 61 parishes in the diocese completed 24,133 surveys. The results of these surveys will help parishes to create pastoral plans focused upon Evangelization, Discipleship, and Mission.
In his new pastoral letter, "The Church Forward!," penned on the occasion of the 180th anniversary of the Diocese of Pittsburgh, Bishop David Zubik reflects on the diocese's past, present, and future.
He then turns to "The Forward," or where we as the Church need to go next. With an eye towards welcoming, he exhorts each of us to embody Christ to each person we meet. He asks all parishioners and clergy to find new ways to reach and inspire others with the love of Jesus.
“We need to be able to see the Church as an invitation to the future, so that every one of us sees ourselves as important to the Church and to helping it grow. That's the reason why Jesus called people to be His disciples."
