Associate Director of Sacred Music – Christ the Divine Shepherd Parish (Monroeville / Penn Hills)

Christ the Divine Shepherd Parish (Monroeville / Penn Hills) is seeking an individual to join our team as an Associate Director of Sacred Music.
Vision Our community seeks a leader who holds a background in music and has a thorough understanding of Roman Catholic liturgy. This person is responsible for the effective planning, coordination and execution of music within the liturgical celebrations of the parish. He or she is gifted with a vision of how a local church can develop its musical potential.
Responsibilities and Tasks The responsibilities of the Assistant Director of Music Ministries may include:
Playing liturgical music at the two churches of the parish for the following celebrations:
2-3 Masses each weekend
holy day Masses and other liturgical services of the parish
Leading and/or assisting in the leadership of one or more of the choirs/ensembles of the parish
Conducting the combined choir of the parish and instrumentalists at major liturgical celebrations throughout the liturgical year (e.g., Confirmation, First Holy Communion, Christmas Eve/Day, Easter Triduum)
Assigned clerical tasks of the parish’s sacred music ministry (e.g., music library management, weekly development of cantor binder/workbook)
Assisting in the preparation of cantors for weekend liturgies
Assisting in the recruitment and formation of potential music ministry volunteers
Competencies
Has demonstrated in previous positions a fidelity to the faith and tradition of the universal Church and shall manifest the intention to adhere in future work to the faith, tradition and discipline of the universal Church, the local diocesan Church and the parish. The candidate shall demonstrate a willingness to pursue continuing education.
Is knowledgeable of and comfortable with Church music literature in all forms and styles for the congregation, choirs (adult, teen and children), vocalists and instrumentalists. This includes comfort with both traditional and contemporary music.
Is proficient in liturgical principles.
Has a thorough understanding of the musical, liturgical and pastoral judgments that must be made in selecting music for liturgy.
Is proficient in at least one performance area (e.g., keyboard, choral, voice).
Is attentive to differences in language, images, needs, etc., of various cultures represented in the local community and those of persons with disabilities.
Safe Environment for Children As with all positions that involve contact with children in the Diocese of Pittsburgh, this ministry comes under the Safe Environment Policy of the diocese which requires clearances, i.e. criminal and child abuse history, a Protecting God’s Children attendance certificate, a signed copy of the Code of Pastoral Conduct, Mandated Reporter Training and FBI Clearance.
Catholic Identity and Mission Clause A signed copy of the Catholic Identity and Mission Clause must be kept on file.
