Administrators at Bishop Canevin High School (Pittsburgh) have learned that two people associated with the school have tested positive for COVID-19.
Out of an abundance of caution and consistent with the recommendations of Pennsylvania Department of Education, all Bishop Canevin students will move to remote learning effective immediately until their Christmas break which begins after school on Friday, December 18, 2020. The school is scheduled to reopen for in-person learning on January 4, 2021.
School families were notified of the decision to shift to remote learning and will be updated through the school’s regular communication channels.
Per CDC guidelines, all buildings are regularly cleaned and sanitized. In addition, Bishop Canevin School continues to follow all diocesan, local, state, and federal health and safety directives, including wearing face coverings, handwashing/sanitizing, social distancing, self-screening, and cleaning/disinfecting.
“At this time, out of a concern for the health and well-being of our students, faculty and staff, it is in our best interests to shift to our online learning program. Our community has embraced the Ignatian value of being "persons for others" which has allowed us to continue in-person for much of the school year. We look forward to returning in-person for the new year provided that it is safe to do so,” said Michael Joyce, principal.
