The Chief of Staff to the President and Secretary to the Board of Trustees works closely with the President on a wide variety of administrative and executive duties, special projects, and initiatives involving the President’s office and its key goals. The Chief of Staff is responsible for serving as the main point of contact between the University President and other stakeholders to accomplish initiatives including: promoting and supporting the mission and values of Carlow University, serving as Secretary to the Board of Trustees and its governance, and providing assistance with other key community relations. This position is responsible for overseeing the administrative, operational, and financial affairs of the Office of President, developing and coordinating special and high-priority projects and initiatives, coordinating/preparing communications and special correspondence, preparing the president’s presentations, and serving as a liaison to the Carlow University Board of Trustees and a variety of internal and external constituencies. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s or Juris Doctor degree preferred. A minimum of seven (7) years professional administration experience supporting senior level managers required. Experience supporting senior level managers in higher education or related environment strongly preferred. Governmental and external relations preferred. REQUIRED SKILLS, ABILITIES AND/OR LICENSURE • Ability to operate flexibly and consistently in working with the President. • Ability to represent the President in making decisions that require mature judgment. • Working knowledge of policies, operations, and practices in higher education • Expertise in prioritizing workflow, managing resources, and overseeing financial and budget matters. • Strong and proven project management competencies. • Excellent organizational and time management skills. • Excellent written and oral communication skills. • Ability to collect and analyze data and information, draw conclusions, and produce reports and recommendations.
