Dean of Students Mission Statement The Central Catholic Promise: To inspire boys to become Men of Faith, Men of Scholarship, Men of Service. Central Catholic High School, a college preparatory school for boys, is guided by the educational principles of St. John Baptist de La Salle. The school strives to provide a challenging, relevant, and diverse program of studies and extracurricular activities in an environment that fosters a life of faith and learning and develops leaders rooted in the Gospel values of integrity, respect, service, justice, and peace. Dean of Students Position Overview: The Dean of Students promotes a positive and healthy school campus that is integrated with the Catholic Faith and Lasallian charism, virtues, principles that encourage self-discipline, reflection, and responsibility. The Dean of Students serves as the lead to maintain student records for attendance, health, and discipline within the Office of Student Affairs. The Dean is the chief liaison to the school administration for campus supervision, student behavior and safety, and daily student affairs issues. Reports to: Vice Principal of Student Affairs (Works closely with the Principal) Direct Reports: No direct reports Status: Full-time, 10-month per year, exempt position. Responsibilities:
Visible presence throughout the campus to ensure culture, safety and security.
Collaborates with the administration to develop a behavior management system that will promote positive student behavior in the school.
Researches matters of discipline and welfare by conferring with students, parents, teachers, and counselors.
Supervises all discipline records and the recording of the infractions, discipline points and detentions/consequences and maintains records.
Supervises all student detention/consequence hours.
Works for resolution in student discipline issues and follows up with appropriate counselor and parent contact.
Ensures disciplinary recommendations conform to school and administrative policy.
Generates and reviews reports of student misconduct cases that require disciplinary action and prepares documentation for the Vice Principal of Student Affairs and Principal when necessary.
Assists teachers in the management of classroom discipline.
Coordinates and supports the School Wellness Program, including the Mandatory Drug testing Program, in conjunction with the Director of Family Support Services.
Supervises student lockers and all school assembly seating.
Supervises the Discipline Review Board and maintains records of meetings.
Contributes to and is a member of the Student Support Team.
Contributes to and is a member of the Emergency Planning Team.
Regularly communicates with the Vice Principal of Student Affairs.
Works with Welcome Center staff.
Supervises students at all school assemblies.
Coordinates Orientation and Parent Night presentations with Administration.
Coordinates any additional proctoring or supervision of students when needed during school hours.
Assists in coordinating parking permit communication, collection and distribution for the Fall, Winter, and Spring parking seasons (June, November, and March).
Attends Welcome Night, New Parent Night, Welcome Mass, Open House, Parent Teacher conferences, Viking for a Day, Honors, Convocation, Baccalaureate Mass, Commencement, and any in-service or staff retreat days.
Works closely with counselors and other teachers/staff/coaches where necessary to effectively communicate students concerns.
Signs up regularly for, attends, and represents the Administration at athletic, extracurricular, and other events per the Master Schedule.
In addition to the specific roles and responsibilities noted in the position description, the Dean of Students may, from time to time, be asked to assist other department employees and/or lead projects, tasks, and activities at the discretion of the Vice Principal of Student Affairs, the Principal, and/or the President. Position Requirements:
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s Degree preferred).
Classroom experience or equivalent experience working with male adolescents in a supervisory capacity.
Openness and willingness to learn and live out the Lasallian Charism and mission of Central Catholic.
Practicing Roman Catholic
Be able to work from the hours of 7:25am to 3pm. (Can be adjusted based on detention/consequence program).
Experience with student supervision and parent communication.
Excellent Organizational Skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills
The ability to work with a diverse community of teachers, staff and students.
According to both State and Diocesan requirements, all employees must file Criminal Record, Child Abuse, and FBI clearances with the school. In addition, new employees must complete the Mandated Reporting training and a Protecting God’s Children session.
