Triumph of the Holy Cross Parish is seeking a full time Director of Music Ministry. The Director of Music Ministry is responsible for planning and directing a comprehensive parish music program which includes choirs, musicians, and cantors serving at liturgical celebrations. The Director of Music Ministry also serves as the music resource contact for all areas of parish life including faith formation, social ministry, and evangelization. Responsibilities:
Plan music and musicians for all Sunday Masses and other major celebrations, including holy days, weddings, funerals, special events, etc.
Build a repertoire and develop greater participation of the parish community singing at liturgies for the purpose of deeper prayer in the Mass.
Work with pastor to plan liturgical celebrations.
Respect the pastor’s understanding of the Church, overall theology and sense of liturgy.
Collaborates directly with the pastor and designated members of the clergy team and/or lay leadership.
Perform duties as directed by the pastor.
Recruit new members to join and participate in parish music ministry.
Work as a team in which the staff are mutually supportive and respectful of each other by being available for special events or projects.
Oversee and/or plan special musical presentations.
Provide an attitude of generous service and mutual support.
Assist in strategic planning by working closely with various parish and diocesan offices.
Serve at multiple Masses each weekend in a rotation.
Plays instruments, conduct the choir and arrange music.
Meet with couples to plan weddings.
Meet with family members for funeral Masses as needed.
Maintain instruments for the parish.
Schedule, train and rehearse with cantors.
Schedule, plan, rehearse and direct choirs and musical groups.
Develop a master schedule for all musical celebrations throughout the year.
Prepare worship aids as necessary.
Knowledge/Skills:
Strong knowledge and appreciation of the Roman Catholic Liturgy.
Considerable instrumental and vocal skills.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
Able to work independently as well as collaboratively with others.
Ability to use and be responsible for audio equipment.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Business Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Formation, Training and Education:
Three (3) – Five (5) years’ experience in liturgical ministry, preferably experience in directing parish music ministry.
Bachelor’s Degree required as well as ongoing training in sacred music and liturgy.
Familiarity and ability to assimilate Church documents when planning music ministry.
Additional Requirements:
Catholic in good standing.
Obtain all Safe Environment Clearances as required by the parish, Diocese of Pittsburgh, and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Attend parish events and be involved in parish life.
Ability to work flexible hours.
Ability to travel to the churches within our parish and to other events as needed.
