Director of Religious Education—Regina Coeli Parish, Bellevue, Franklin Park, Emsworth, PA Director of Religious Education Job Description: Regina Coeli Parish, a Catholic community that encompasses the churches of Assumption in Bellevue, St. John Neumann in Franklin Park and Sacred Heart in Emsworth, is seeking the right candidate to lead the catechetical program for our faithful in grades 1-8 and our Family Catechesis programs. Our mission is to provide an integral and comprehensive Catholic formation to our young parish members and their families. Duties and Responsibilities:
Fosters acquisition of the four cardinal virtues of prudence, justice, fortitude and temperance along with the three theological virtues of faith, hope and charity as means to grow in holiness.
Values collaboration, and mutuality in mission and ministry.
Supervises support staff and volunteers.
Ensures adequate preparation for the sacraments, especially Reconciliation, Holy Communion, and Confirmation.
Assists in planning parish sacramental celebrations in collaboration with the Pastor/Administrator, Parochial Vicars, Deacons, Directors of Music Ministry and Director of Pastoral Care/Lay Ministry.
Fosters the integral growth in the knowledge and practice of the Catholic faith in the members of the parish.
Ensures that opportunities are available for participation in the liturgical life of the Catholic Church in all catechetical programs.
Develops a learning community among the catechists so they assimilate basic principles of sound pedagogy and adult learning and are able to apply this knowledge appropriately for the developmental level of learners.
Instills in the catechist zeal for the evangelizing and catechetical mission of the Catholic Church that enables them to cultivate discipleship among the children, teens and adults they teach.
Presents to catechists and others the teaching of the Catholic Church according to the catechetical principles enunciated in Church documents.
Invites, motivates and trains volunteers to assist as responsible leaders for various aspects of the total program.
Develops a spirit of collegiality, identity, and unity among catechetical staff and families when blending programs.
Promotes good public relations both within and beyond the parish.
Oversees the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) program at the Regina Coeli Parish Assumption site.
Conducts and facilitates the Family Catechesis Model program for Assumption and St. John Neumann sites.
In conjunction with the Pastoral Leadership Team assesses the catechetical needs of the parish, designs religious education programs to meet those needs, assembles appropriate resources and undertakes ongoing evaluation of curriculum, methodology and programs.
Ensures that complete and accurate records of catechists, students, and families are maintained and current.
Plans and implements Vacation Bible School programs at Assumption and St. John Neumann sites.
Collaborates as necessary with Director of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd at St. John Neumann site.
Participates in regional, district and diocesan networks of professional peers for the good of the parish.
Key Skills:
Firmly accept and hold each and everything definitively proposed by the Catholic Church regarding teaching on faith and morals;
Strong organizational and time management skills;
Proficient in Google Workspace (Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Meet etc.);
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of products.
Knowledge of theology/catechetics, scripture, liturgy, psychology and educational theory;
Knowledge of stages of human and faith development;
Ability to call forth and develop others;
Capacity to relate to a wide variety of people, a spirit of generosity, and the ability to delegate and collaborate;
Able to facilitate meeting and group processes;
Knowledge of and skilled at conflict management and resolution.
Required Education and Training: Bachelor's degree required; Master’s degree preferred, from an accredited college or university with study in Theology, Religious Education, Pastoral Studies or a related discipline.
