POSITION TITLE: Director of Youth Ministry LOCATION: St. Richard & St. Catherine Parish REPORTS TO: Pastor/Parochial Vicar FULL TIME OR PART TIME: Full time
Description The Director of Youth Ministry will be responsible for building relationships with youth in grades 6-12 in order to guide them into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ and instill in them a love for the Church. The Director of Youth Ministry provides vision and coordination for the parish’s efforts in ministry to young people. The ministry should develop close communication with, and mutual support from, families of youth and collaborate with other parish and community youth organizations. The youth ministry program is to model for young people how to put their learned faith into action. Primary Objectives
Lead teens closer to Christ and his Church.
Teach teenagers Truth regarding who they are and who God is.
Foster a welcoming and accepting community of young people.
Build relationships with young people and their families.
Inspire teens to live out their faith in their parish community and the world at large.
Instill in teens a desire for the sacraments and for a deeper participation in the Church.
General Responsibilities
Attend regular pastoral staff meetings and participate in staff planning
Coordinate the recruitment, training, supporting, and evaluating of volunteers in the YM
Maintain policies and record compliance with the Archdiocese of Milwaukee’s Safeguarding All God’s Children program
Be a presence in the parish community through its liturgical and social events
Develop and maintain a budget approved by the Finance Commission and Pastor.
Maintain regularly scheduled office hours in order to be accessible to youth, parents, staff and the leadership of the congregation.
Ministry Responsibilities
Be present and engaged in all middle school ministry events including EDGE & Upper Room.
Plan and execute weekly high school youth group events including Life Teen, service projects, discipleship groups and social events.
Plan and execute yearly retreats for high school students including: Women’s Retreat, Men’s Retreat, and Spring Retreat.
Invite high school students and coordinate a group to attend yearly events including: The Fall Retreat, Steubenville Youth Conference, and diocesan sponsored events.
Plan and execute yearly fundraising events to benefit youth ministry including: the Craft Show, Spaghetti Dinner and Trivia Night.
Plan and execute yearly mission trips including: St. Catherine Appalachia Mission Trip and St. Richard Appalachia Mission Trip.
Manage and update the Youth Ministry webpage as well as the information presented on the parish website.
Utilize effective means of communicating to young people the variety of ministry and program opportunities available including the bulletin, email and social media platforms.
Participate in local community events to show support for the young people including: sporting events, musicals, concerts etc.
Prepare and plan for the World Youth Day Pilgrimage in 2023 spiritually logistically and economically.
Position Qualifications: Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Catechetics, Religious Education or National Credential in Youth Ministry or background in theology and educational methodologies with a willingness to move toward credential or degree
Skills, knowledge and ability:
The Director of Youth Ministry is a person of Christian faith who strives to live a life guided by the Gospel, rooted in regular personal prayer, and lived out in the Catholic faith community.
The Director of Youth Ministry’s faith has been formed in the Catholic theological tradition; a CYAM is knowledgeable in Sacred Scripture, Christology, Ecclesiology, Catholic Doctrine, Sacramental and Moral Theology.
The Director of Youth Ministry is an effective leader and administrator; skilled in communication, pastoral planning, budgeting and managing volunteers.
The Director of Youth Ministry understands the needs, development and culture of young adults and is able to effectively respond to these in ministry programming.
The Director of Youth Ministry is knowledgeable about, and able to effectively utilize, a variety of resources in youth ministry.
