Bishop David A. Zubik has appointed Matthew J. Stoessel as president of Central Catholic High School in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh.
The role of president focuses on development, fundraising and financial management while the principal oversees academics. Stoessel will work collaboratively with interim principal Kevin Sheridan in leadership of the all-boys school.
He has significant experience at Central Catholic, having served since 2017 as executive director of advancement. In that role, he increased annual giving over each of the last five years. Stoessel had been serving as interim president while the search for a new president was underway.
“The diocese is blessed to have an experienced leader who has dedicated himself to the mission of forming young men in faith, service and academics. He possesses the skills and experience to continue building on the many strengths of Central Catholic High School,” Bishop Zubik said.
Prior to joining the staff at Central Catholic, Stoessel worked in fundraising for several non-profit organizations, including the stewardship office of the Diocese of Pittsburgh and the Catholic Foundation of the Diocese of Greensburg.
Stoessel’s appointment was recommended by the Central Catholic High School board of directors and the member board of the Catholic High Schools of the Diocese of Pittsburgh.
