Following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Pennsylvania Department of Health protocols, along with recommendations from the Diocese of Pittsburgh and the Allegheny County Health Department, all 27 people involved with the North Catholic Varsity Boys Soccer Team will quarantine for 14 days. Student athletes will continue classes online.
This action comes after North Catholic was notified that the team was potentially exposed to the coronavirus in a recent match.
"We appreciate the open lines of communication between schools during this pandemic, as we are all working hard to keep students and staff safe. Transparency is paramount," said John Benzing, Assistant North Catholic Principal.
North Catholic advised the team and school families of the situation. Fortunately, there are no reports of anyone on the team feeling ill. According to guidance from the Allegheny County Health Department, no building closure is warranted.
"I am confident in the success of our remote synchronous learning program that these students will continue to be educated while at home and staying safe. We hope to see them on the field soon,” said Michael Palcsey, North Catholic Principal.
