Bishop Zubik announces the following clergy appointment:
ADMINISTRATOR (pro-tem)
The Very Reverend David G. Poecking, VE, is appointed Administrator (pro-tem) of Saints Joachim and Anne Parish, Elizabeth/Glassport/South Allegheny Area, effective Monday, November 27, 2023. through Tuesday, January 2, 2024. At the same time, Fr. Poecking will maintain his responsibilities as Regional Vicar of the South Vicariate.
RETIREMENT
In accordance with the provision of the Priest Personnel Policy, and at his request, the Reverend Robert J. Ahlin is relieved of his responsibilities as Senior Parochial Vicar of Blessed Trinity Parish, Brentwood/Hays/South Pittsburgh, effective Monday, November 20, 2023. At the same time, Father Ahlin has been given permission to begin retirement and take up residence at Saint John Vianney Manor.
In accordance with the provisions of the Deacon Personnel Policy, and at his request, Deacon James T. Weiland has been granted permission to retire from active diaconal ministry, effective November 3, 2023.
PERMANENT DEACON
Deacon Robert M. Marshall to the parish of Saint Mark the Evangelist Parish, Glade Mills/ Cranberry Township, to the Ministry of Sacrament, Ministry of Word, and Ministry of Service and Charity, under the direction of the Pastor, the Reverend Charles S. Bober, effective Monday, December 4, 2023.
CHAPLAIN
The Reverend Dilio A. Onyejiuwa, with the permission of the Reverend Robert R. Cannon, Chancellor of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, is appointed as Chaplain to Washington Hospital, with continued residence at Saint James Parish, Washington, PA, effective Monday, November 20, 2023.
The Reverend Jean El Helou, with the permission of the Most Reverend Paul Abdel Sater, Bishop of the Maronite Catholic Eparchy of Beirut, Lebanon, is appointed as Chaplain of Washington and Jefferson College, Washington, PA and PennWest University, California, PA, with residence at Saint James Parish, Washington, PA, effective Monday, December 4, 2023.
SPECIAL NOTICE
The Reverend Dozie Egbe has been granted permission to take up residence at Saint Mary Magdalene Parish, East End/Point Breeze/Wilkinsburg, effective Monday, December 4, 2023.
The Reverend Michael R. Ruffalo is assigned to studies in Public History, effective Thursday, August 1, 2024. Fr. Ruffalo will continue his assignment as Curator of the Patrimony and as a member of Team Ministry for the Shrine Parishes of the Diocese of Pittsburgh.
The Reverend Brendan H. Dawson has been granted permission to pursue graduate studies for the Spiritual Director Training Program, sponsored by the Institute for Priestly Formation Program (IPF) at Mundelein Seminary. At the same time, Fr. Dawson will continue his assignment as Pastor of Saint Jude Parish, Morningside/Shadyside/Stanton Heights, effective April 14, 2024 to February 5, 2027.
LEAVE OF ABSENCE
Deacon Richard D. Ernst has been relieved of his appointment to the Ministries of Sacrament, Word, and Service and Charity at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, Allison Park/Glenshaw, and has been granted a leave of absence without faculties for up to six months, effective November 10, 2023.
RELEASED FROM ASSIGNMENT
At his request, Deacon Brett M. Schurter has been relieved of his diaconal appointment to the Ministries of Sacrament, Word, and Service and Charity at Saint Aidan Parish, Wexford, effective November 15, 2023.
