Carlow University is currently accepting applications for a fulltime Painter to assist with an array of on campus projects on a regular basis.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist on-site preparations such as building scaffolding, covering fixtures etc.
Prepare walls and other surfaces for painting by scraping, using sandpaper, removing old paint etc.
Fill cracks and holes with appropriate material (e.g. plaster)
Mix paint and other materials to prepare the right color or texture
Paint surfaces according to instructions with various tools
Apply stain, varnish and other finishes
Take and adhere to all health and safety precautions
Smooth or prep surfaces using sandpaper, wire brushes, or steel wool.
Smooth surfaces using sandpaper, putty knives, wet sponge, etc.
Cleaning and maintaining of all equipment necessary to perform any painting task.
Remove old paint from surfaces using paint remover, scrapers, and wire brushes.
Paint surfaces using brushes and paint rollers as necessary.
Install and repair wall covering.
Prepares drywall wall board system with smooth finish for paint.
Select pre-mixed paints or prepare paint to match specified colors by blending and mixing required portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances.
Properly fill joints, nails and screw holes and cracks.
Fill nail holes, patch cracks, fill open seams/joints, etc. with caulking, putty, plaster, or other filler.
Assist Maintenance team when needed
Experience Required:
Background with latex and oil-based paints and primers.
Background in wood-staining.
Drywall removal of damage drywall
Prepare drywall for painting
Experience with hand tools such as flat-head/phillips-head screwdrivers, hammers etc.
Experience with power tools such as multi-tools, circular saws, power drills, nail guns, etc.
Maintain painting in campus common areas, dorms, office, etc
At least 4 years of Commercial and Resident painting experience
