President, Bishop Canevin High School Bishop Canevin High School, founded in 1959 is a Catholic, college preparatory school dedicated to the education of young men and women in the Diocese of Pittsburgh, prepares students for a life anchored in Faith, a life enlightened by Learning, and a life committed to the promotion of Charity and Justice. Through a holistic educational approach that is intellectually challenging, rooted in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and aligned with the principles of Ignatian spirituality, the school challenges students to life-long learning and growth in a spirit of “competence, conscience and compassion” as young men and women in service of others. The Board of Directors of Bishop Canevin High School has made the strategic decision at this moment in the school’s long history to enhance the school administration structure with a return to the “President-Principal model.” The school is seeking a highly qualified candidate for President of the school to further its mission as it prepare for the next 65 years. Job Description The Office of the President has as its primary purpose to provide institutional leadership of the school in order to achieve the fullest attainment of the mission statement of Bishop Canevin High School. The President works in collaboration with the Principal and bears responsibility for the school’s operation and policies, concentrating primarily on its Catholic identity, vision, mission and philosophy, finances, development and fundraising efforts, care of physical facilities, marketing, public information, and maintenance of positive relations. The President is the primarily responsible for ensuring sufficient resources, sound fiscal management, and the long-term financial stability of the school through direct oversight of the business operations, advancement/fundraising/development, marketing, alumni and community relations, student recruitment and enrollment management activities. The President serves as liaison to the school’s Board of Directors. The President brings such matters to the attention of the Board of Directors as appropriate to keep the Board fully informed and to meet its policy-making responsibilities. The President has power, on behalf, of the Board, to perform all acts and execute all documents to make effective the action of the Board. The President works closely with the Principal, the Board of Directors, and in varying degrees, with other groups within the school community to provide leadership with regard to purposes, values, and goals of the high school. The President’s close collaboration with the Principal and commitment to the process of administrative alignment is critical to his or her efficacy and must serve as the foundation for all inherent duties and responsibilities.
The President is recommended by the Board of Directors of Bishop Canevin High School, is appointed by theCatholic High Schools of the Diocese of Pittsburgh, Inc. (CHSDOP) Board of Members and is supervised and evaluated by the Superintendent of Catholic Schools through procedures established by the Superintendent of Catholic Schools and the CHSDOP Board of Directors
Qualifications:
Practicing Roman Catholic
Values Catholic education and has proven support (e.g. volunteer, service on committees, service on a board, service as a trustee, etc.)
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Education or related field required. Advanced degree preferred. A minimum of 5 years related professional experience or a combination of education and experience.
Graduate of Catholic education (e.g. K -12 and/or undergraduate education) is preferred, but not required
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to build and foster relationships with the alumni and friends of Bishop Canevin High School community, along with the philanthropic community, both individual and corporate, with a proven track record of fundraising
Visionary leadership and management experience
Strategic planning experience and execution capabilities
Strong budget management skills
Ability to inspire confidence and passion within the school
Maturity and wisdom to optimize Board members’ engagement in the mission
Unquestionable integrity
