Diocese of Pittsburgh Job Description for Principal For an Incorporated High School with both a Principal and a President The Office of Principal's primary purpose is to provide educational leadership at North Catholic High School in accordance with the mission statement, the Incorporated By-laws, and the Service Agreement with the Diocese of Pittsburgh. The Principal is the educational leader and a facilitator of a community of educators. The Principal is responsible for the integration of academic rigor with formation in faith. The Principal is responsible for accomplishing the school's mission by maintaining and strengthening academic achievement, ensuring appropriate counseling and guidance services, and providing ample programs to meet the co-curricular and extra-curricular needs of the students. The Principal works closely with the President and the Board of Directors to maintain the School’s Catholic identity and values. This includes maintaining the Marianist vision of education begun by the Bishop of Pittsburgh in 1939. The Assistant Superintendent of Catholic Schools evaluates the Principal through procedures established by the Board of Members. Fosters the school’s Catholic identity • Ensures that the Catholic dimension of the school is developed and promoted among students, faculty, staff, and parents in cooperation with the Board of Members. • Employs faculty and staff whose values match the school's mission. • Maintains a discipline program with the Assistant Principal consistent with the school's Catholic nature. • Fosters opportunities for school liturgies and paraliturgical services with the Campus Minister. • Ensures that students, faculty, and staff have an awareness of the global family and especially of the social teaching of the Catholic Church • Supports the Diocesan requirements outlined by its Safe Environment Policy and its Pastoral Code of Conduct • Works with the Chaplain and Consultant/Director for Catechesis to ensure that Catholic teaching as outlined by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) is maintained throughout the curriculum. B. School Policies and Procedures • Provides input into periodic review of the philosophy and mission statement of the school. • Implements Board policy with regard to academic affairs, student affairs, athletic affairs, and campus ministry affairs. • Attends meetings of the Board of Directors as an ex-officio member. • Prepares and presents a written report at each Board meeting on internal educational school matters that have emerged since the prior meeting. • Assists the President and Board in developing strategic, short, and long-term plans. • Ensures compliance with all accreditation agencies. • Complies with all terms of the FPDT Agreement. C. Staff Recruitment/Development • Creates and maintains an environment within the school that fosters strong morale.• Hires faculty and staff, making sure that all faculty members conform with all diocesan and State requirements • Assures that all new hires understand and support all elements of the Diocesan requirements for a safe environment, Catholic Identity, and the Pastoral Code of Conduct • Provides orientation and ongoing mentoring for new teachers in conjunction with applicable requirements • Coordinates agendas for faculty meetings and in-service professional development days. • Consult regularly with the President regarding all personnel matters. • Monitors strategic and long-range planning and development goals. • Seeks to develop an understanding of the religious, demographic, and socioeconomic composition of the school’s catchment area as it impacts the school and its future. • Communicates the strategic plan, short-term and long-term goals and objectives, and the mission to the school community and the wider community. • Attends appropriate diocesan meetings • Participates in professional organizations and appropriate professional development activities. • Complies with all terms of the FPDT Agreement. • Revises where appropriate a Faculty/Staff Handbook and Student Handbooks in collaboration with the President. • Ensures the quality of the teaching-learning process in cooperation with the Assistant Principal and/or Deans. • Cultivates leadership and advancement opportunities within the ranks of faculty and staff. • Participates in hiring coaches in collaboration with the Director of Athletics and the Director of the Office for Operations. • Ensures the quality of the Guidance and Counseling Program. • Serves as a liaison between the faculty and support staff and, the school’s Leadership Team, and the office of the President. • Ensures that there are in-place appropriate systems of professional development and evaluation for all faculty D. Student Affairs • Works closely with the Assistant Principal and Deans. • Follows diocesan policy regarding suspensions and expulsion of students. • Supervises the administration of the discipline policies of the school. • Ensures the timely appointment and supervision of all student activities and moderators. • Oversees the completion of all official accreditation, diocesan, and state reports. • Works cooperatively with the President and the Office for Operations to develop the annual school budget. • Assists the President in communicating strategic, short-range, and long-range plans to the school community. • Supervises the development of the school calendar E. Academic Affairs • Collaborates with the Assistant Principal in the assignment of teaching and other professional responsibilities as the school's needs require. • Oversees the student registration process. • Monitors the preparation of the master schedule. • Oversees the reporting of student progress. • Oversees the assignment of substitute teachers. • Manages the school in compliance with all policies of the Diocese of Pittsburgh. • Directly responsible for the Evaluation and Supervision of the teaching staff, including those who provide professional services SUBMISSION: Please submit a cover letter and resume by email to the President, Rev.
