Special Officer (Seven Openings) Applications are now being accepted for seven (7) openings of the position of Special Officer in the Diocesan Office for Safety and Security of the Diocese of Pittsburgh. The Special Officer position, under the direction of the Regional Security Supervisor and collaborating with the Regional School Superintendent, is responsible for performing various duties, to ensure the safety and security of Diocese of Pittsburgh personnel to include clergy, administrators, students, parishioners, visitors and property. This position is assigned to a Regional School and/or High School within the Diocese of Pittsburgh. Qualifications for the Special Officer position include:
Completion of complete background check and completion of:
• PA Child Abuse History; • Criminal Record Check; • Fingerprint Certification; • Act 24; • Act 168.
Meet or Completion of PA School Security Guard Requirements:
• Licensed under 18 PA.C.S. CH 61 Sub. A; • Completion of PA Act 235-Armed Security Guard with annual recertification of firearms; • Completion of PCCD Approved School Officer Course (required within six (6) months of employment).
Minimum ten (10) years Police Officer with Act 120 separated in good standing or ten (10) years Pennsylvania State Trooper separated in good standing.
Minimum three (3) years of School Resource Officer or similar experience (Community/Neighborhood Resource Officer).
Maintain a current CPR/AED and minimum first aid certification (instructor preferred).
This position may require working after normal hours and during the weekend and holidays. This position is based on a 190-day school year schedule (180 school days + 10 training and administrative days). A competitive salary will be offered to the successful candidate as well as a benefit package.
