Triumph of the Holy Cross Parish is seeking a Youth and Young Adult Minister to:
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program development:
Ministry begins with a personal prayer life.
Enthusiastic - capable of reaching out to people by various means (e.g., presence at Mass and parish events, attend local activities to meet youth, form relationships, utilize electronic communication.)
Coordinates a core group of young adults and parents in directing programs and services.
Develops relationship with parents that are conducive to open communication between parents and youth.
Plans, schedules, and leads (or finds leaders for) an annual retreat for teens focusing on spiritual growth.
Provides programs for social outreach and service, directly involving parish teens.
Develops small group Bible studies and reflection groups.
Offers social gathering for teens and young adults.
Provides pastoral guidance to teens and parents and helps them obtain professional referrals as needed.
Arranges occasional programs for parents of teens and pre‐teens.
Provides a catechetical component in youth gatherings and offers catechesis in other practical ways.
Works in collaboration with parish religious education and other offices.
In collaboration with the Director of Faith Formation, will manage and facilitate formation to the middle school implementing Life Teen EDGE program.
Collaborate on the development of middle school core team volunteers and leaders.
Collaborate with summer programs utilizing pre-teens and teens in peer and service ministry such as Vacation Bible Camp, Service Camp, etc.
Will develop and provide ministry opportunities for young adults in collaboration with parish staff.
Conducts or arranges leadership training for youth ministry core group and teen leadership.
Administration:
Operates within an established budget; monitors and fully accounts for spending and receipts.
Monitors adult volunteers for compliance with safe environment policies and general youth ministry policies of the Diocese of Pittsburgh.
Responsible for fundraising in order to provide for weekly events and activities.
Professional and Spiritual Development:
Seeking continuing education and training in the fields of youth ministry and religious education and catechesis.
Music background, preferred. Capable of leading worship.
Communication:
Good communication within the parish and local community is essential.
Keeps the parish and faith community informed of youth ministry activities and goals.
Keeps informed of diocesan events, policies, and other programs.
Is aware of community agencies and resources that interface with youth.
Arranges for teens to participate in diocesan sponsored and other acceptable programs offered to teens or pre‐teens in larger venues: i.e., Diocesan events, Franciscan University of Steubenville Youth Conferences, NCYC, and other diocesan, regional, and national programs.
Collaborates with other parish youth minister coordinators to connect teens with multi‐parish youth ministry events and programs; involves teens in ecumenical or interfaith programs when applicable.
Necessary Qualifications:
Roman Catholic in good standing in the Church.
Strong faith and prayer life.
Commitment to the Catholic faith and fostering an ongoing relationship with Jesus.
Fully compliant with Diocesan policies and with safe environment/child protection requirements.
Prior youth ministry experience, training in youth ministry or willingness to acquire and continue training.
High degree of comfort working with youth and awareness of appropriate boundaries.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
B.A. in religious education, theology, youth ministry or related field preferred.
Youth ministry certification preferred.
