Born and raised in McKees Rocks, Damar Hamlin was a standout player at Central Catholic High School and the University of Pittsburgh before the Bills drafted him in 2020.
NFL players on the field, fans in the stadium, and millions watching on TV held their breath, cried, and prayed as they witnessed him collapse during the Monday Night Football game against the Cincinnati Bengals on January 2, 2023. Central Catholic immediately organized prayer to a toy drive he had organized in 2020 for his hometown. The world watched and prayed for Damar to have a swift and full recovery.
