On Saturday, November 27 at 2:00 p.m., the Schola Gregoriana of the Saint Gregory Institute of Sacred Music, along with the Schola Cantorum of Most Precious Blood of Jesus Parish, Pittsburgh, will offer a liturgical performance of Gabriel Fauré’s setting of the Requiem Mass.
The Mass, which will be offered for the Faithful Departed of the Diocese of Pittsburgh by the Reverend Canon William Avis, ICRSP, Pastor of Most Precious Blood Parish, will include Gregorian chant alongside Fauré’s beloved music, accompanied by chamber orchestra and conducted by Nicholas Will and John Rokosz (chant). The Requiem is being co-sponsored by Most Precious Blood of Jesus Parish and the Saint Gregory Institute of Sacred Music and is open to the public.
This represents a rare opportunity to experience Fauré’s masterpiece in its original liturgical context—that of the pre-Vatican II (“Tridentine”) Roman Catholic Mass.
