The Transitus is the celebration of St. Francis’s passing from this life to eternal life with God, or as he called it, embracing Sister Death. It is celebrated on the evening of October 3, the eve of his feast day. The celebration include the writings of St. Francis as well as the accounts of his early biographers, and the Gospel passage St. Francis wanted read before his death, followed by a fervorino. After the celebration all are invited to a social with eating of almond cookies, a favorite of Francis which he ate before he died.
