Join the Assisi Arts Community (AAC) for Image & Likeness: An Exhibition of Sacred Art!
On Sep. 2 Paula Calabrese will be leading us in visio divina. Among the many methods of prayer and reflection in the Catholic tradition is visio divina, or "divine seeing" - a method of using sacred art as a way of prayer. Scripture is filled with examples of the contemplation of vivid imagery as a key to the contemplation of deeper truths, from Peter's dream of the bounty of beasts on the rooftop in Acts, to the vivid images of scrolls, seals, and the Lamb in the Apocalypse. Visio divina invites us to use our everyday sense of sight in a special, concentrated way - seeing slowly and attentively as a guide to prayer. Through visio we not only perceive the beauty of a sacred depiction but also the particular message sent through that work to each of us. In the words of Pope John Paul II's letter, Veneration of Holy Images, meditation on sacred art can "offer us a visual synthesis of all dimensions of our faith.” Join us for a workshop on visio divina led by experienced educator and visio practitioner Dr. Paula Calabrese for an experience that will invite you to see deeply through the image to the truths of faith beyond.
Doors open at 6:45PM and the event begins at 7PM. This event will be held in The Port (3620 Butler St
Pittsburgh, PA 15201) so it will be possible to view the exhibit in its entirety.
Street parking is available along 36th, 37th, and Butler.
