On Good Friday, April 15, 2022, Pittsburgh Area Pax Christi will hold its annual Way of the Cross/Way of Compassion in Wilkinsburg. This is a contemporary, ecumenical public procession using prayer and silence to commemorate Christ’s passion as it is lived out in our world today. The walk begins at 10 am at St. James Church of St. Mary Magdalene Parish.
In solidarity with all the refugees and migrants fleeing war, climate emergencies, poverty and violence, participants are encouraged to bring a bag or backpack filled with items that the participant would bring if they needed to flee. These are not to be donated, but just carried for the time of the Way of the Cross.
A monetary collection will be taken up to support the work of the Wilkinsburg Sanctuary Project for Peace whose mission is to end youth and gun violence in Wilkinsburg and beyond.
Immediately following this Way of the Cross/Way of Compassion there will be a brief joint prayer service for peace in our world with Waverly Presbyterian Church and the Wilkinsburg Sanctuary Project for Peace at the gazebo across from Wilkinsburg Community Ministry, 702/704 Wood St. Pittsburgh, PA 15221 at 11:45 am.
Pittsburgh Area Pax Christi is a local chapter of Pax Christi USA a lay and religious Catholic organization that promotes peace, justice and nonviolence through a process of prayer, study and action. For information please call Mimi Darragh 412-445-7102.
