It is with much joy that we welcome you to the new school year! The MCA program in the Mission Office is of service to schools and religious education programs in the Diocese of Pittsburgh. We invite you to participate and join together to help our students answer their Baptismal call to be missionaries!
The Missionary Childhood Association (MCA), formerly named Holy Childhood Association, was founded France in 1843 by Bishop Charles de Forbin Jansen. Its purpose is to encourage all children to be aware of the needs of children living in mission dioceses throughout the world and support them both spiritually and sacrificially.
Today, more than 170 years later, MCA continues to follow the founding vision of “children helping children.” It is in 110 countries and helps make Jesus known to children all over the world. MCA endeavors to attain its ends through the united efforts of all Catholic children who are taught to recognize that sensitivity to others is an essential dimension of Christianity.
Monies raised through schools and religious education programs are directed towards self-help programs for children in mission dioceses involving the building of schools, the provision of health and nutrition programs and medications, school fees, and teaching and learning resources.
MCA is unique to other organizations that assist children in that its dual mandate is to encourage children to share their faith with children in the developing world as well as support through their prayers, personal sacrifices and financial offerings.
MCA cares for children regardless of their religious affiliation.
