Suspension is due to a positive COVID-19 test from a member of the clergy Team
Out of an abundance of caution, all in-person Masses at the churches of St. Joseph the Worker parish are temporarily suspended, due to a member of the clergy team testing positive for COVID-19. St. Joseph the Worker is a newly formed parish representing the merger of eight churches in East Pittsburgh neighborhoods (Good Shepherd, Sacred Heart, Madonna del Castello, St. Colman, St. John Fisher, St. Jude the Apostle, St. Maurice, and Word of God).
Churches will re-open for in-person Masses on Saturday, December 5, 2020. In the interim, live-stream Masses will be offered. Details will be posted on the parish website (
https://sjwpitt.org/).
The clergy member who tested positive last participated in a Mass on November 19, 2020. The parish follows all diocesan, local, and state, and federal health and safety guidelines including wearing face coverings, social distancing, and cleaning and sanitizing protocols.
"Statistics are impersonal -- until someone you know becomes one,” said Father Frank Almade, pastor. “One member of the St. Joseph the Worker Parish clergy team has tested positive for COVID-19. His symptoms are mild, but I ask our parishioners to pray for him, his full recovery, and all who are afflicted during this pandemic.
Since our clergy team was together for prayer with him, we are placing ourselves in quarantine out of an abundance of caution. I am sorry for any inconvenience this causes.
I suggest that our parishioners who are well consider attending Mass at a neighboring parish, or anyone can watch our live-streamed Mass from Word of God church. See our website for details," Father Almade added.
