Job Description The Assistant Director of Music Ministry is a self-motivated, energetic individual responsible for assisting the Director of Music Ministry in the implementation of various components of Liturgical Ministry for the Parish Grouping “Adams/Cranberry/Glade Mills”, consisting of Saint Kilian Parish and Holy Sepulcher Parish. This individual will report to the Director of Music Ministry.

Qualities The Assistant Director of Music Ministry must possess the ability to work collaboratively with the Director of Music Ministry as well as the administrator, Director of Evangelization and all other pastoral staff. This person must have a broad-based knowledge of liturgical styles of music and a refined knowledge of liturgical rubrics, liturgical calendar and scripture. This person must project a positive and inviting persona to all parishioners and liturgical ministers.
Routine Duties and Responsibilities The Assistant Director of Music Ministry will share responsibilities of playing accompaniment on organ and/or keyboard with the Director of Music Ministry for all Liturgical Celebrations of both parishes in the grouping. Accompaniment assignments for all Liturgical Celebrations will be assigned by the Director of Music Ministry. Liturgical celebrations are defined to be (but not limited to): Weekend liturgies, Holy Days of Obligations, Triduum, School Masses, Sacramental Celebrations of Reconciliation, First Communion, Confirmation, Stations of the Cross, Ash Wednesday, any para-liturgical celebrations, Graduations Masses, Funerals, Weddings, Taize and other liturgical celebrations that may be planned by the pastoral associate and the administrator. Other duties may be assigned.
Weekend Liturgies (currently there are 9 total for both parishes) The Assistant Director of Music Ministry will accompany at 3 or 4 of the 9 masses at either parish on a rotating schedule agreed upon with the Director of Music Ministry.
Holy Days and other Liturgical calendar-year celebrations: The Assistant Director of Liturgy will be available to play organ/keyboard at either parish based on the schedule assigned by the Director of Music Ministry.
Weddings and Funerals: The Assistant Director of Music Ministry will be available to play organ/keyboard at either parish in the group on a mutually agreed upon schedule with the Director of Music Ministry.
Rehearsals: The Assistant Director of Music Ministry will be available to assist the Director of Music Ministry at joint rehearsals of choirs. The Assistant Director of Music Ministry will also help in the formation and rehearsing of various choirs as the needs arise at either parish in the group. (i.e., Adult Choir, Children’s Choir, Bell Choir, instrumentalists, school cantor, choir & band groups)
Music Planning: The Assistant Director of Music Ministry will offer planning suggestions to the Director of Music Ministry in terms of repertoire for choirs and cantors.
Technology: The Assistant Director of Music Ministry will assist the Director of Music Ministry in making rehearsal tracks for various choirs and cantors and in the preparation and distribution of printed music. The Assistant may also assist the Director in preparing worship aids for various liturgical celebrations.
In order to assist the Director of Music Ministry in these responsibilities it is important that the Assistant Director of Music Ministry maintain on-site office hours of at least 24 hours per week in addition to the weekend liturgical schedule.
Knowledge/Skills The Assistant Director of Music Ministry must demonstrate a proficiency in:
Organ playing
Keyboard (piano) playing
Singing
Choral Directing
Organizational Leadership
In addition: It would be beneficial if the Assistant Director of Music Ministry has the following computer skills in: a. Word b. Publisher c. Excel d. Adobe PDFs f. Allegro Finale/Musenotes or other music notation program
Education The Assistant Director of Music Ministry must have an Associate Degree in Music (Bachelor’s Degree preferred) and 2 years’ experience in parish music ministry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The Assistant Director of Music Ministry must have all relevant child protections clearances as mandated by the Diocese of Pittsburgh.
Compensation Salary is negotiable and will be based on diocesan salary structure guidelines and is commensurate with years of experience.
