Pittsburgh, PA – With the approval of Bishop David Zubik, the District of the Eastern North America’s Provincial/Visitor, Brother Robert Schaefer, FSC, and the support of the Catholic High Schools of the Diocese of Pittsburgh, Inc. Board of Directors along with approval of the Central Catholic High School Board of Directors, Brother Michael Andrejko, FSC, has been named the next Principal for Central Catholic High School (Oakland). Brother Michael succeeds Brother Anthony Baginski, FSC, who has led the Lasallian high school since 2016. Brother Michael’s ministry formally begins July 1, 2022.
A Brother for more than thirty years, Brother Michael currently serves as the Director of Vocations for the District of Eastern North America (DENA). Since 2017, Brother Michael and his team have visited the more than 30 ministries throughout DENA, educating and advancing the vocation of The Brothers of the Christian Schools, inviting young people to discern God’s call in their lives, and providing opportunities for young men to consider the unique religious life of a Christian Brother.
“While my most recent ministry with the District allowed me to meet and interact with our many students throughout DENA, I look forward to fully immersing myself in the daily life of Central Catholic, and leading this educational community I love,” said Brother Michael.
In appointing him to the position, Bishop David Zubik noted, “Of particular importance is your desire to serve the Catholic mission and identity of our schools. The strengthening and sustaining of our Catholic schools and their Catholic identity is of the highest importance for the future of our Church.”
Bishop Zubik went on to say, “I am confident that you will continue to build upon the fine tradition of excellence that has always been a hallmark at Central Catholic High School. Be assured of the support of the Department of Catholic Schools. We will work closely with you in advancing the goals of Catholic secondary education in this diocese so as to provide quality, faith-centered education to young people in this local Church.”
Brother Michael is a 1986 graduate of Central Catholic High School, and served as a teacher and campus minister there from 2007 to 2010. He was Principal at St. John’s College High School in Washington, DC for six years, and he will be a representative to The Brothers of the Christian Schools 47th General Chapter in Rome in May of 2022 which sets the direction and focus for the De La Salle Christian Brothers’ international mission of education for the young, especially the poor, for the next seven years.
“I thank Brother Michael for his years of service to our District Office, and am grateful that he has accepted the invitation to lead Central Catholic,” said Brother Robert Schaefer, FSC. “There is no doubt, that with Michael’s experiences as Teacher, Campus Minister, Administrator, and Brother, and fresh off of his international experience in Rome this May, that the future of Catholic Lasallian education in the Viking nation is in good hands!”
