Today, Catholic Charities completed the purchase of the former Diocesan Pastoral Center at 111 Boulevard of the Allies.
Bishop David Zubik and the Diocese of Pittsburgh are eager for the work of Catholic Charities to grow as part of a vision known as “Compassion Corner” at the Boulevard of the Allies and Stanwix Street.
Bishop Zubik and Catholic Charities are excited about their new home.
“We look forward to the relocation, and we’re energized and excited to have this opportunity to expand and enhance our programming in a location that provides a unique opportunity for greater collaboration with other organizations in order to provide more holistic solutions to those we are privileged to serve,” said Susan Rauscher, Executive Director of Catholic Charities.
In moving its headquarters, Catholic Charities has a more visible presence in the City of Pittsburgh, providing greater opportunities for many more people to be served.
As the primary social service arm of the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh, Catholic Charities serves all people, regardless of religious affiliation, in six counties of southwestern Pennsylvania (Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Greene, Lawrence, and Washington), in a manner consistent with the values and teachings of the Catholic Church. Services are geared toward transforming lives through basic needs assistance, counseling, health care, job training, housing assistance, pregnancy and parenting support services, senior services, and tangible and support services for those displaced from their country of origin.
“The New Testament is filled with many instances where Jesus shows compassion to those in need. From a Christian perspective, compassion means to listen and respond from the heart, providing comfort in times of pain, sorrow, or worry, as well as sharing more deeply in times of joy,” said Bishop Zubik.
“During Holy Week, we all are especially invited to do what we can to help make many people’s lives better. Compassion Corner will be a place where that will happen!”
In 2020, the Diocese of Pittsburgh moved its Pastoral Center to the Diocesan Campus on Noblestown Road, also within the territory of the City of Pittsburgh. The new location is better suited to provide for the ongoing support of the faithful in every parish and every school.
