Following guidance from the Allegheny County Health Department, Central Catholic High School (Oakland, PA) will move to virtual learning for all students starting Monday, November 16, 2020. Students will return to Central Catholic for in-person learning on Tuesday, December 1, 2020, unless otherwise noted. The Thanksgiving break will be honored.
This action comes after a fourth person involved with the school reported a positive COVID test. The cases appear to be independent of each other. There is no evidence of internal spread of the virus.
Effective immediately, all athletics and extra-curricular activities that cannot be conducted online are suspended while Central Catholic is online-only.
Parents were informed of the need for the closure and will be updated through the school’s regular communication channels.
“We are thankful that we have been able to provide face-to-face instruction for nearly three months and we are fully prepared to provide quality instruction online,” said Brother Tony Baginski, FSC, Principal. “We encourage our students to continue to follow social distancing guidelines and stay safe and healthy throughout the holiday and we look forward to welcoming them back after Thanksgiving break.”
