Christ Our Savior Parish is seeking a part-time Co-Director of Music. The part-time (25-30 hours per week) Director of Music will be responsible for all music for liturgies in the three worship sites of the parish and will report to the pastor.
Duties & Responsibilities
Under the direction of the pastor, and in collaboration with the other Co-Director of Music, the Co-Director of Music schedules and oversees music at parish liturgies including the 4pm and 5pm Vigil Masses, 9am, 10:30am and 11am Sunday Masses, as well as Holy Day of Obligation Vigil, Day, and Evening Masses at three worship sites;
Schedules and oversees music at special liturgies including Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Masses, Ash Wednesday Masses, Triduum Liturgies, and an annual Mass of Remembrance, as well as Sacramental liturgies (First Holy Communion, Confirmation) and others as added by pastor;
Collaborates with parish organists to play two to three of the five parish Masses every weekend;
Plays the organ for funerals and, in collaboration with the other Co-Director of Music, weddings;
Regularly schedules and leads rehearsals for the parish adult choir, bell choir and potential future choirs;
Assists in selection of musicians and music for weddings, funerals and other special liturgies;
Oversees training of volunteer cantors;
Collaborates with other parish employees and parishioners as needed to prepare for liturgies, rehearsals, etc.;
Recommends all necessary worship aids, hymnals, and other resources to pastor. Orders new materials when approved by the pastor;
Secures substitute organists as needed;
Ensures that music is used in accord with proper licensing;
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Practicing Catholic in good standing with knowledge and understanding of the Catholic Church and her teachings
Obtain all Safe Environment Clearances as required by the parish, Diocese of Pittsburgh, and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
At least 3 years of experience leading a strong sacred music program
Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Sacred Music or a related field with strong knowledge of Catholic worship and liturgical documents of the 20th Century
Proficiency in vocal performance of liturgical music, as well as organ and piano
Experience in classic hymns, tasteful liturgical music, and Gregorian chant; praise and worship possibly also helpful
