EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATOR FOR PRESCHOOL SPEECH-LANGUAGE CLASSROOM Speech and Integrated Language for Literacy (SAILL) Program at DePaul School for Hearing and Speech
This position will provide an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated individual, seeking to participate in the ongoing collaborative development of a quality preschool program. This program is designed to meet the needs of children with moderate to severe speech-language delays as well as those children who would benefit from an intensive program to develop communication and early literacy skills. The person in this position will work under the supervision of the Education Director and the Director of Early Intervention Services and collaborate with the other preschool classroom teacher and a Speech Language Pathologist who is an integral part of the instructional team. Skills/Requirements:
PA Certification Early Childhood Education
Three years experience in early childhood education; special education experience preferred
Pennsylvania clearances for educators, including criminal record check, child abuse clearance and FBI fingerprinting
Works with: This position requires collaboration with SAILL Preschool teacher and two Speech language therapists, and is supervised by the Director of Early Intervention.
Responsibilities Include:
Participate in planning discussions with administration and other team members.
Collaborate in designing the physical set up of the classroom learning environment
Create a daily schedule, classroom procedures and program policies in collaboration with the SLP
Plan and Implement daily lessons and activities for large and small group learning in collaboration with the SLP
Plan and integrate music activities throughout the day
Co-teaches with SLP during designated group activities
Support individual speech-language goals during group lesson
Monitor the care and storage of toys, materials and equipment
Establish and maintain communication with parents using a variety of tools and technology to engage them in supporting the learning goals with the children at home
Write a quarterly progress update regarding preschool skills development
Meet regularly with SLP and the administrative team to review program implementation, solve problems and brainstorm new ideas in order to maintain the highest quality program for the children and families in the speech-language preschool program
Participate in preschool department meetings and professional development opportunities
Physical Requirements:
Auditory acuity to hear speech sound errors of students and model and recognize the differences between them
Ability to maintain clear speech articulation at all times in order to provide a consistent model for the students
Frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity
Performing required work and moving about as needed in a fast-pace, high-intensive work environment
