All Catholic school teachers to have in-service day Monday to prepare for potential closures
In an abundance of caution in response to coronavirus (COVID-19) related concerns, there are several updates that impact schools in the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh:
Saint Bede elementary school (Point Breeze), East Catholic (Forest Hills), and Saint Therese of Lisieux (Munhall) will be closed Friday, March 13th for sanitizing. Per the Centers for Disease Control’s most recent recommendations, a few students and adults from those schools will remain home for 14 days because of possible exposure to someone who may have been exposed to the coronavirus (COVID-19).
There will be no classes in all schools (K-12) in the diocese on Monday, March 16, 2020, so that teachers can attend an in-service day to plan and prepare for the possibility school closures due to the pandemic.
In an effort to respond to questions and concerns, Serra Catholic High School (McKeesport) will be closed tomorrow. Students will have “chrome from home” online classes while the school is sanitized.
To be clear, no one in any of our Catholic school communities has any known symptoms or has reported any interactions with anyone who has tested positive for the virus. Given this time of heightened sensitivity, we wish to act to the fullest extent to preserve the health and safety of the school community.
This remains a very fluid situation. School principals will continue to update families as the situation warrants. Updates are also posted on a new area on the diocese website:
