Bishop Zubik announces the following clergy appointment:

PASTOR

The Reverend Charles S. Bober from Pastor of Saint Kilian Parish, Adams/Cranberry Township and Administrator of Holy Sepulcher Parish, Glade Mills, to Pastor of the newly established Saint Mark the Evangelist Parish, Adams/Cranberry Township/Glade Mills. This assignment becomes effective on Saturday, July 1, 2023.

The Reverend Jeffrey M. Craig from Parochial Vicar of Regina Coeli Parish, Bellevue/Emsworth /Franklin Park and Chaplain (part-time) of North Catholic High School to Pastor of Saint Catherine Laboure Parish, South Park/Upper Saint Clair, for a term of six (6) years, effective Monday, July 10, 2023.

The Reverend Thomas L. Gillespie from Senior Parochial Vicar of Saint Oscar Romero Parish, Canonsburg/Meadow Lands/Muse to Pastor of Saint Oscar Romero Parish, Canonsburg/Meadow Lands/ Muse, for a term of six (6) years, effective Monday, July 10, 2023.

The Reverend E. Daniel Sweeney is appointed as Pastor of Saint Joseph the Worker Parish, Braddock/Churchill/Forest Hills/Swissvale/Turtle Creek/Wilmerding, PA, for a term of six (6) years, effective Monday, July 10, 2023.  At the same time, Father Sweeney will continue his assignment as Pastor of Saint Thomas the Apostle Parish, Duquesne/Homestead/Munhall/West Mifflin/Whitaker.

The Reverend G. Malcolm McDonald is appointed as director of Saint John Vianney Manor, Pittsburgh, effective Monday, July 10, 2023, with continued residence at Saint John Vianney Manor.  This appointment is in addition to Fr. McDonald’s assignment as Chaplain to the State Correctional Institution, Greene County.

RETIREMENT

In accordance with the provisions of Priest Personnel Policy, and at his request, the Reverend Frank D. Almade is relieved of his responsibilities as Pastor of Saint Joseph the Worker Parish, Braddock/Churchill /Forest Hills/Swissvale/Turtle Creek/Wilmerding, effective Monday, July 10, 2023.  At the same time, Father Almade has been granted permission to begin retirement with continued residence at Saint Joseph the Worker Parish, Braddock/Churchill/Forest Hills/Swissvale /Turtle Creek/Wilmerding.

In accordance with the provision of the Priest Personnel Policy, and at his request, the Reverend David D. DeWitt is relieved of his responsibilities at Holy Family Parish, Oakmont/Plum/Verona, effective Monday, July 10, 2023.  At the same time, Father DeWitt has been granted permission to begin retirement and take up residence at Saint John Vianney Manor.

In accordance with the provisions of the Priest Personnel Policy, the Reverend Philip J. Przybyla is relieved of his responsibilities as Retired Priest with an Assignment as Director of Saint John Vianney Manor, effective July 10, 2023.  At the same time, Father Przybyla has been granted permission to begin full retirement with continued residence at Saint John Vianney Manor.

In accordance with the provision of the Priest Personnel Policy, and at his request, the Reverend Robert L. Seeman is relieved of his responsibilities as Parochial Vicar of Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, Crescent/Coraopolis/Moon, effective Monday, July 10, 2023. At the same time, Father Seeman has been given permission to begin retirement and take up a private residence.

CHAPLAIN

The Reverend Kenneth W. Marlovits to Chaplain (part-time) to the students and staff at Bishop Canevin High School, effective Monday, July 10, 2023.  At the same time, Father Marlovits will remain the Director of Vocations for the Diocese of Pittsburgh.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE

The Reverend John B. Gizler, III, in accordance with the Priest Personnel Policy of the Diocese of Pittsburgh, is given permission for an extension to a six-month leave of absence, until December 31, 2023.  Father Gizler has been given continued permission to remain in a private residence.

MINI-SABBATICAL

The Reverend Michael R. Peck, after consultation with the Clergy Personnel Board and in light of the norms established by the Priest Personnel Policy, is given permission to take a mini-sabbatical for three (3) months effective Thursday, June 1, 2023 and concluding on Thursday, August 31, 2023.
SPECIAL NOTATION

The Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County, PA has issued a Decree For Change of Name granting the Petitioner, Reverend Aleksandr Joseph Schrenk, effective May 18, 2023, a name change to Alexander Joseph Schrenk.
