Administrators at Mary of Nazareth Catholic School (White Oak) have made the decision to move to remote learning after the Thanksgiving break in the midst of increasing numbers of positive COVID-19 cases in Allegheny County. No positive tests have been reported to the school. The action is being taking in an effort to keep students and staff healthy and safe.
Remote learning will begin December 1, 2020, which was originally scheduled as the school’s first day back after Thanksgiving vacation. Students will receive daily livestreamed instruction. The school building will undergo deep cleaning and sanitizing. The school is scheduled to reopen for in-person learning on December 14, 2020. Administrators will continue to monitor community impact, and keep parents informed of any changes through their regular channels of communication.
“Having given this considerable thought and prayer, I believe it is in the best interest of the entire Mary of Nazareth community to be proactive in protecting all of the students and staff by allowing for a period of social distancing after the Thanksgiving break rather than bringing everyone back together without full knowledge of anyone's private circumstances. When we return to full brick and mortar, we will continue right where we left off,” said Lynda McFarland, principal.
