Job Description St. Thomas More University Parish located in Indiana, Pennsylvania is seeking to hire a full-time Pastoral Associate for Liturgy and Music. The Pastoral Associate for Liturgy and Music is responsible for overseeing the liturgical music program for the parish. This person, serves the parish as principal musician, pianist and choir director. This person of faith is responsible for the effective planning, coordination, and execution liturgical music for the parish liturgical celebrations.
The Pastoral Associate Liturgy and Music is responsible for ensuring quality liturgical celebrations and music that enhance the "full, conscious, active participation of the faithful" of St. Thomas More University Parish.
Primary Responsibilities:
Function as principal organist and choir director.
Attend Weekly Staff Meetings.
Collaborate with the Pastor and with other members of the parish staff, integrating his or her own area of responsibility with the overall parish mission.
Ensures that all licensing and copyright regulations are followed.
Assistant Pianist/Organist, and directors of other ensembles.
Prepare and manage the budgets of the liturgy, music, in collaboration with the pastor.
Provide music and musicians for all Sunday and other major celebrations, including weddings, funerals, Advent vespers, Lenten vespers, first reconciliation, etc.
Build repertoire and encourage participation of parish community in singing at various liturgies.
Meet with couples and families for sacramental liturgies, e.g., Weddings and Funerals.
Train, direct, supervise and expand choirs, ensembles and volunteer cantors, etc. in accord with parish evangelization efforts.
Coordinate the Mass schedules between the choirs, cantors, and musicians.
Serve as a resource regarding music, helping to educate staff, ministers of music, and congregation in developing their potentials to understand the role of music in worship and to celebrate liturgies of musical quality.
Ensure that all details regarding the liturgical life of the parish are properly planned, thoroughly prepared and skillfully executed.
Select and develop participation aids for the congregation.
Compose the weekly Prayers of the Faithful for Weekend Masses and various parish liturgical celebrations.
Collaborate as needed with other staff members on the preparation of prayer services and devotions.
Keep abreast of developments in sacramental theology, liturgy, the requirements of Canon Law, liturgical practice nationally and diocesan policies and guidelines, and update the parish on these matters.
Work to foster unity among all parish musicians, and to create a spirit of harmony with the presider and other liturgical ministers.
Collaborate with the Coordinator of Music at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Parish.
Assist with a develop a College Mass for the students at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. (Student Musicians, Choir, and Cantors)
Qualifications:
Practicing Catholic who respects and upholds Catholic Church teaching.
Completion of the Diocese of Greensburg Clearances.
Masters in Liturgical Music or proven experience in parish liturgical music.
Ability to play the piano.
In-depth knowledge of Church documents that govern and direct liturgy and sacred music
Skill as an effective choir conductor.
Ability to work with college students.
Ability and desire to lead and sustain a program of quality congregational singing.
Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skill
Ability to work effectively with all levels of employees and volunteer.
Able to honor and maintain confidentiality
Strong computer skills.
Familiarity with music technology; including sound systems, digital scores, virtual instruments, recording, sequencing and interfacing.
Pastoral Leadership skills
Probation period is 90 days at which time a review will be held with the Pastor.
