Saint Benedict the Moor elementary school will be closed for in-person instruction effective September 17, 2021, and will resume on Monday, September 27, 2021. Students will engage in remote learning during that time. School administrators learned of eight positive COVID cases involving members of the school community in the past four days.
The decision to pause in-person instruction was made out of an abundance of caution and with the health and safety of all in mind. It is consistent with the Allegheny County Department of Health recommendations for school closures based on the number COVID-19 cases during a 14-day period and level of community transmission of the virus.
School families were notified of the situation and will be updated as needed through regular channels of communication.
"With the unpredictable nature of COVID-19 and the challenges it presents, it is in the school’s best interest to temporarily close our facilities for in-person learning at this time. Safety is our number one priority, and we take every precaution possible to keep our students, teachers, staff, and school community as safe as possible," said Audrey Bowser, principal.
