DePaul School for Hearing and Speech The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) will be responsible for working individually and in small groups with a caseload of students from the preschool, elementary, and speech/language preschool classroom. She/he will perform regular assessment of students’ speech, language, and listening skills and report evaluation results. Progress will be monitored and reported quarterly for each student on the caseload. The SLP will maintain organized and accurate information in each student’s file. For children with IEPs, the SLP will report the students' present levels and generate individualized goals based on formal and informal assessment. She/he will use best practice methods in therapy sessions and will work with students and families to promote and build spoken language and communication skills. Supervision: This position is supervised by the Director of Early Intervention. Physical requirements of the position: Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds. Required clearances: Criminal Record, Child Abuse Clearance and FBI clearance. Skills/Requirements:
Energetic and warm with students and able to manage behavior when needed.
Has a high level of interest in working with students who have significant speech/language delays and may be nonverbal at the start of therapy
At least 3 years of experience in pediatrics
Experience or willingness to learn techniques and strategies specific to the student population at DePaul, including diagnosis and treatment of apraxia of speech, use of AAC devices as a bridge to spoken language, use of listening and spoken language strategies for children with hearing loss, and troubleshooting assistive listening devices
Works well with parents and is willing to invite them into individual sessions or meetings
The SLP will maintain ASHA certification and PA licensure
Willingness to continue to grow and develop professionally is required.
Responsibilities include:
Perform initial evaluations, record reviews, create evaluation reports, and develop speech/language goals.
Participate in IEP development, staffing meetings and IEP progress reporting
Provide daily individual and small group speech/language therapy sessions
Maintain weekly lesson plans and have plans available for subbing.
Obtain language samples and video samples of students at the beginning and end of the school year.
Participate in subbing with speech department staff when one SLP is absent
Track individual speech/language goals and report written progress to parents quarterly
Communicate frequently with parents and invites them to participate in individual sessions as needed
Communicate with outside SLPs and other agencies as needed
Provide written summary report for each student at the end of the school year or at the end of the student’s IEP period
Participate in weekly speech department meetings
