Following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Pennsylvania Department of Health protocols, along with recommendations from the Diocese of Pittsburgh and the Allegheny County Health Department, 23 students in an eighth grade homeroom, and nearly 50 people involved with the football program at St. Louise de Marillac Catholic School in Upper St. Clair will quarantine for 14 days and continue classes online.
This action comes after the school was notified that a second person tested positive for COVID-19. St. Louise De Marillac administrators notified the team and school families of the need for the quarantines. Fortunately, the two people who tested positive are not experiencing serious symptoms and are recovering at home.
“We have been very cautious every day with all of our COVID-19 precautionary measures. Temperature checks, mask wearing, social distancing in the classroom, cafeteria and playground have all been put into place. We are making this difficult decision out of an abundance of caution, and with the health and safety of our students and faculty as our top priority during these difficult times,” said Kenneth Klase, Principal, St. Louise de Marillac Catholic School.
School administrators, along with representatives of the Allegheny County Health Department will continue to monitor the situation and update school families. According to guidance from the Allegheny County Health Department, no building closure is warranted.
St. Louise de Marillac school continues to meet and exceed all health and safety protocols for in-person learning including temperature checks, mask-wearing, cleaning and sanitizing procedures, and adhering to social distancing requirements.
“Ken and his team are doing an outstanding job balancing health, safety and classroom instruction. I am extremely proud of the collaborative spirit of our administrators, teachers and parents across the Diocese as we continue to educate our students,” said Michelle Peduto, Director of Catholic Schools.
