Virtual learning continues until November 10, 2020
With an additional positive COVID-19 test reported on October 27, six people associated with St. Louise de Marillac Catholic School in Upper Saint Clair are now diagnosed with the virus. In accordance with health and safety protocols from the PA Department of Health and the PA Department of Education, the school will extend the closure it began last week, and students will continue with virtual learning.
The school plans to re-open on Tuesday, November 10. All school activities, including sports, are suspended until that time.
On October 22, the students in an eighth-grade homeroom and nearly 50 people involved with the football program began a 14-day quarantine after two individuals associated with the school tested positive for COVID-19.
In an October 27 message to parents, principal Ken Klase said, “This is not the email I want to be sending. I thank you for your support as we continue to work through the challenges associated with keeping everyone safe while providing the quality education you expect in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Administrators for each Catholic school within the diocese make decisions about COVID response and other matters based on the individual circumstances of their school communities. The Diocese of Pittsburgh is home to seven high schools and 32 elementary schools across five of its six counties.
