The Story:
Stories captivate us. They suspend our reality for a moment and let us look at life in a different way. Stories change our lives.
That’s why Jesus taught his disciples by using stories, or parables, about scenes from everyday life. He taught and evangelized by speaking about ordinary things that everyone could understand.
Our everyday lives are full of stories! How is God using the events of your life to teach you and those around you about who he is and how he is calling you to holiness?
Write about it! Trading Parables is a space to share your stories and allow the stories of others to bolster you on your faith journey.
The Perks:
While we are unable to provide monetary compensation, blogs posts will reach nearly 20,000 people through our social media channels and receive hundreds of views. It’s a great way to take your writing and your story to the public sphere!
Readers want to know about you as a writer! Tell us about your vocation, your occupation, your hobbies, your ministry, or your passions. We’ll include a byline at the end of your blog and give it a shout-out in the social media post.
The Details:
If you are you interested and willing to blog for Trading Parables, take a look at the list of requirements we hold for participating in this ministry:
1. When writing about Jesus and his Church, choose any topic that resonates with you.
2. You can submit blogs at you leisure, no more than 1 a month.
3. Each blog should be 500-750 words.
4. We encourage personal stories. We are not looking for fictional stories.
5. Don’t be preachy. Avoid saying things like, "We often do this thing," or, "Christians usually." Instead, choose the first person: "I struggle with…"; “I
learned that…” More than anything we must “preach” with our lives and past experiences.
6. Participate on social media. We are humbly requesting that when you see a blog post, you skim it and comment on the post/blog. When you comment and contribute on our blog posts, you help the community grow.
7. PLEASE have one or two people look over your work to edit for grammar, spelling, and overall flow. We don't have the staff to make major edits, and will
reject blogs that are not well written.
8. We reserve the right to choose which blogs do and don't make it to the site. If your blog doesn't make it to the site, we encourage you to post it on your own parish websites, or personal Facebook.
9. We reserve the right to edit for grammar and flow.
10. Stick to one simple idea per blog. Don't try to cover too much in one blog.
