Start by consulting the closest members of your family—your wife, in particular, if you’re married—about the idea of becoming a deacon to determine their support.
Then, meet with your pastor or another priest or deacon of the diocese about nominating you to the Deacon Formation Program. (Don’t be surprised if they approach you first. It doesn’t matter who initiates the discussion.)
A nomination will trigger the application process and result in you receiving a packet of application materials along with instructions, deadlines, and more information about how the admission process will unfold.
